My three favorite singers are: 邓丽君,王菲,谢天笑

The first one, Teresa Teng, is a classic and it's a real shame she died so young. Her songs are pretty soft to the ear, and fairly widespread regardless of age. Wang Fei (Wong Faye) is a more recent star, and I do not necessarily like all her songs but I do like the quirky ones, especially the stuff from 重庆森林. The last one is a male singer. I generally don't really like male singers in mandopop since 90% is too whiney, there's no edge to it at all. It's all about relationships, eternal love, some girl/guy slowly dying but still loving the other, etc. 谢天笑's songs are rougher, and have more interesting lyrics. It's the singer I recommend to people when they complain Chinese songs are too whiney.

@Gillian, I'm so happy that you love 邓紫琪 and I love her, too. She wrote the lyrics of 泡沫 , composed  and performed it when she was 20. At that time she was disappointed in love. Every time I listen to this song I'll be touched a  lot so I love 泡沫 very much.^_^

Besides, do you need to pay if you listen to some songs online in your country?

Katherine, it's not easy to get exposed to Chinses songs, if you don't study Chinese or live in China.
Nobody around listens to it (except for some very specific genres: traditional music, metal etc:)).

So it's rahter a question I wish to ask myself...
I remember just two songs I listened to intentionally. I don't remember the name of the first one. I listened to Cambodian rock/pop of 60's and found that some of the tunes come from Chinese hits. I looked for the source of one of them, but i didn't like the Chinese version.

The second one i noticed accidentally.  It's 女儿情 form the soundtrack to Journey to the West. You know this one, probably. I stumbled upon this song performed by wan xiaoli.
I sing this one myself sometimes... when thee is nobody around to hear. Especially, no Chinese)

@Megumi, thanks for your share^_^

Faye Wong and Jay Chou are really superstars. I like them very much, especially, Jay Chou. Some lyrics of songs like 彩虹 are really beautiful.^_^
