거에요 vs. 거예요

I have been using the Integrated Korean textbooks (published by University of Hawaii) and was taught to use "거예요". I learned that in class as well. Even websites like TalkToMeInKorean.Com use "거예요" (and they say they you don't use "거에요").

However, I also see on other websites that you sometimes use "거에요". Sometimes I get corrections from native Koreansstating that I should use "거에요".

Which one is correct, 거에요 or 거예요? Are both acceptable? Why is there so much confusion on the subject?

I appreciate any information on the topic. 감사합니다! :)

Well, honestly, we don't really care and just use 거에요 most of the times.

You're right though, 거예요 is the correct form, as '거' doesn't have 받침 you're supposed to put 예요 after that.

However, most of us aren't aware of such rules and in fact 거에요 is so much more widely used that there are even some people who think 거예요 is wrong because it doesn't look familiar.

Unless they're Korean teachers, noone will correct it
