In Britain and many other countries, the end of April and start of May was historically an important time of the year. People celebrated nature - the blooming of flowers and the fertility of people and the land. The UK has a bank holiday on the first Monday of May. However, this is less about the ancient festival and more about the struggle of working people for better conditions. Some people use the phrase "May Day" for International Workers' Day on 1 May, and others use it to talk about the historical celebrations.
