Luis
Asking about jobs Few weeks ago I hooked up with a former co-worker, Lisa at the store. She was my co-worker, she used to work at my company until she decided to quit few months ago to start a new job as a Network Engineer at IBM. It's a job she has been working toward for years. She is very intelligent and I am very happy as a friend that she got this job opportunity. Anyway, I wanted to see how she was doing and being honestly I was also thinking of making a move myself. I then asked: Hey Lisa, Do you remember me? I'm Luis. We used to work at HP. She replied: Of course I remember you. How are you? Long time, no see. How are things at HP? Me: Well, it's all about the same. Honestly I have been thinking of making a change myself. Do you mind if I ask you a few things about your current job at IBM? Lisa: Hmm No, not at all. Go straight ahead. Me: Well, my first question is about salaries, I was wondering what the salaries are like? I mean are they much higher than HP's. Lisa: Well, I can't speak for all departments at IBM, but my salary is definitely higher than at HP. But as I told you, it will depends on the department you're interested in or you're applied for. Me: I see, that's what I though. What about the perks? I have heard that the perks are better. I was wondering if that was really true. Lisa: I would have to say "yes" on that, the perks are better than HP's. I am pretty sure I will get a big end-of-the-year bonus. We also have life insurance, transportation, saving plans, etc. Me: Ohh that's great. It sounds like you are really happy with your move. Lisa: Yes, I guess I am. You know, working as a Network Engineer at IBM really suits me.

nice :) .... I think your English is better then most natives. Your word usage is also very appropriate for the context which is very good.

Asking about jobs

A few weeks ago I hooked up with a former co-worker, Lisa at the store. She was my co-worker, she used to work at my company until she decided to quit a few months ago to start a new job as a Network Engineer at IBM. It's a job she has been working towards for years. She is very intelligent and I am very happy as a friend that she got this job opportunity. Anyway, I wanted to see how she was doing and in all honestly, I was also thinking of making a move myself.

Lisa: Hmm, No, not at all. Go right ahead.

Me: Well, my first question is about salaries. I was wondering what the salaries are like? I mean, are they much higher than HP's?

Lisa: Well, I can't speak for all departments at IBM, but my salary is definitely higher than at HP. But as I told you, it all depends on the department you're interested in or have applied for.

Me: I see, that's what I thought. What about the perks? I have heard that the perks are better. I was wondering if that was really true.

Lisa: I would have to say "yes" on that, the perks are better than HP's. I am pretty sure I will get a big end-of-the-year bonus. We also have life insurance, transportation, saving plans, etc.

Me: Oh that's great. It sounds like you are really happy with your move.

Lisa: Yes, I guess I am. You know, working as a Network Engineer at IBM really suits me.
