IELTS TASK 1: Chart 37. The Internet
The bar chart below illustrates the percentage of accessibility to the Internet in a European country comparing urban/suburban and rural areas of the country from 1999 to 2004.
As can be seen, there is an upward trend in having household Internet access in both urban/suburban and rural areas. In 2004, the accessibility to the Internet increased three times since 1999.
According to the chart, in all the periods, urban/suburban areas had significantly more (1) access to the Internet than rural areas. The growth in having the Internet access in urban/suburban areas was considerable from 1999 to 2002, when it rose by 10 percent each year, reaching 50% in 2002 from 13% in 1999. The growth in access to the Internet in rural areas was not as fast in that period, reaching 15% in 2002 from 2% in 1999.
Between 2002 and 2004, there was a slight rise in the percentage of the Internet access owning (2) by approximately 6% in urban/suburban areas, while that of rural areas increased rapidly by 20%.
(1) "Significantly more" modifies the word "access", so it reads better to move it before "access".
(2) Internet "access" already implies "having", so it is a little redundant to use both words.
