What does this quote mean? In my studies recently, I came across this quote. What do you think it means? I am curious to see how people from other cultural backgrounds would interpret it. Thank you! "There was no other good enough to pay the price of sin. He only could unlock the gate of Heaven and let us in. Education could not do it. Social reform cannot do it. Our beautiful essays and ethical sermons cannot do it. It is Christ upon the Cross who discovers sin, who forgives sin, who conquers sin." -Ikbal Ali Shah

Davut, I agree that there is a difference between Islam's view on Christ and Christianity's view. In the Bible it says "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus." (1 Timothy 2:5) Jesus was not just a prophet but he was God. I know in Turkish culture you observe Kurban Bayramı, when a lamb is sacrificed to remember how Abraham almost sacrificed his son in obedience to God. Later on, Jesus Christ died and shed his blood to pay for the sins of the world. He was sacrificed as a pure, holy payment for our sins. The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)

In my Turkish understanding it exactly express the Christian philosophy. There is a conflict between Islamic belief and Christian belief at this point. In Islam Christ is a messenger as well as last prophet Muhammad. And in Islamic belief only God can forgive the sin. Beside this in Christianity Christ is believed as another God (as far as I know). And the essay says nothing can save you except Him(Christ). He can create, forgive and do things need God power. Such as letting people to get in Heaven.

That quotation from a famous hymn speaks for itself. William Temple once said: Education does not turn a devil into an angel; merely into a clever devil". The Holy Spirit convist of sin. Christ alone has conquered sin and through Him there is complete forgiveness.

I recognise teh hymn from which that first line sentecce is taken from. Your second sentence remonds me of a famous comment by Archbishop William Temple: "Education does not turn a devil into an angel; merely into a clever devil".The Holy Spirit convists the world of sin. Only Christ conquers it. Praise Him!
