what are good ways to learn vocabulary i seem to be good in catching alphabet, grammar, pronouciation and all the logic behind. But all that is very useless not knowing the meaning of words How to do I learn that and make it stick? (this question is for learning any language)

yes, movies and such are really great for learning language. but what if my vocabulary is quiet empty and i seem to understand barely a word per minute of dialogue? also, what about learning japanese? theres no way to make word-by-word translations of that as a movie subtitles.

Hi Tomas, I find the best way for me is to read comic books - the new words are backed up by pictures. I also then look them up in a dictionary online to double check the meaning. After that I try to make a sentence using the word - if only in my mind - and use it as soon as possible I also watch movies in the language I am learning. New vocabulary will be in amongst words I already know. I stop the movie, look up the word and practice saying it in a sentence. Let me know if that works for you! Vicki
