In Urdu, should third-person references to God be in plural for respect? This is a repeat of a Hindi question that I had earlier. I have been taught to use plurals for respect, both in second (aap, tum) and third person (ve, ye). This also extends to other items that inflect for number (such as verbs). I also have heard that in Urdu second person references to God are typically made in the singular (tu). However, I am confused about third person references to God (when speaking of only one god). Should these be singular, or plural? My Hindi instructor claims that the plural should always be used in third person reference to God, but I have seen other approaches in Christian and Muslim writings. Is there any standardized usage in Urdu? I don't want to seem to disrespect God!
