Fingertip search
Hello!
I would like to know if this British expression is used literally or idiomaticaly. When you say "fingertip search", do you mean "to search for a clue using your fingertips" ou "search for a clue very carefully".?
Thanks :)
It means both. It means a very careful search. But, as in mystery novels it also means a literal search using one's fingers to make sure nothing is missed. Like combing your fingers through grass.
