みなさん、こんにちは。

5月8日は母の日でしたね。みなさんはお母さんに何かプレゼントをしましたか。
私は、私のお母さんと旦那（だんな）さん（主人・しゅじん））のお母さんにお花をプレゼントしました。母の日のお花はカーネーションが多いですね。きれいに飾（かざ）っているお花は安（やす）くても3000円ぐらいします。でもとてもきれいです。旦那さんのお母さんは、5月8日に私たちの家に遊びに来てくれたので、そのとき渡しました。一緒にケーキも食べましたよ。
私のお母さんには、お花を送りました。喜んでくれたみたいです。
私もお母さんです。子供が二人います。上の子は高校2年生の男の子です。毎日、勉強に追（お）われて大変そうです。下の子は、小学3年生の女の子です。ピアノを一生懸命（いっしょうけんめい）頑張（がんば）っているんですよ。で、母の日、きっと何ももらえないなと思ったので、自分でお花を買いました。
でも、500円のお花です。そして、息子に自分の買って来たお花を見せて「ありがとう。きれいだね」と言いました。息子は、「わかったよ。お金払うよ」と言って、お金を出そうとしてくれました。でも、私は「いいよ、その気持ちだけで」と言ってお金は受け取りませんでした。娘もお花を見ながら、その日は、たくさんお手伝いをしてくれました。
みなさんの母の日は、どんな日でしたか。

“I’ve always had a great interest, and fascination with  anything related to Japan, especially Japanese manga comics and movies….so, about 2 years ago I decided that I’d try to learn the language, and also made a plan to visit Japan someday. 

Although I’d picked up some Japanese words, and phrases from watching movies and cartoons over the years, I still needed to start learning the language from scratch, and was at sixes and sevens on where to start.  One of my friends who actually studied Japanese in college, recommended a youtube channel to me, which is hosted by a native Japanese teacher, and I decided to give it a shot. 

 The video lessons were wonderful, and I found that I was able to start picking up the language very quickly, from the very first lesson, with the added bonus that it was all free!  The teacher was wonderful, and really helped make learning the language a lot of fun, as well as getting me off to a flying start, and after just a few weeks,  my Japanese started to improve by leaps and bounds.

The time flew by, and after just 6 months, I was actually able to have a basic conversation in Japanese which I felt extremely happy and proud of, and actually got to visit Japan about six months ago, which was absolutely amazing, especially as I was now able to communicate with the locals….all thanks to this amazing youtube channel.

Halloween is a fun and spooky holiday that people celebrate on October 31st each year. But do you know where it comes from, and why we wear scary costumes? Let's explore the history of Halloween and costumes!
Halloween started a very long time ago, around 2,000 years ago. It began with an ancient Celtic festival called "Samhain" (pronounced sah-win). The Celts lived in what is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and France. Samhain was a special time when they celebrated the end of summer and the beginning of winter.
The Celts believed that on the night of October 31st, the boundary between the living and the dead was very thin. They thought that the spirits of the dead could come back to Earth on this night. Some people were afraid of these ghosts, so they dressed up in costumes to hide from them. They also lit bonfires to scare the ghosts away.
In the 8th century, the Christian church started a holiday called "All Saints' Day" on November 1st. It was a day to remember and honor all the saints. The night before, on October 31st, became known as "All Hallows' Eve," which later turned into "Halloween."
Over time, Halloween came to America with immigrants from different countries. People brought their own customs and traditions, and Halloween became a mix of all these traditions. One of these traditions was dressing up in costumes, which became a big part of Halloween.
Today, Halloween is a day for fun and creativity. People of all ages wear costumes, but the costumes are not just scary. You can be anything you want – a superhero, a princess, a witch, or even a funny animal. People also go trick-or-treating, where kids dress up in costumes and go door to door asking for sweets.
So, when you see people in scary costumes on Halloween, remember that it all began with the Celts who wanted to protect themselves from ghosts. Now, Halloween is a time for everyone to enjoy dressing up and having a spooky good time.
