私はヨーロッパに住んだこととアジアに住んだことがあるのですが、ヨーロッパ人の美とアジア人の美は異なるところが多いとよく感じます。どちらが良いとか悪いという話ではなく、単純に美というものへの考え方の違いが面白いと思ったので今日はアジア人の美意識、特に日本人女性の美の基準について話したいと思います。

日本のメディアでは【色白】【くっきり二重】【鼻筋が通った鼻】【まつ毛がくるんとしている】【小顔】などの特徴があるとかわいい、美しいとされます。海外から帰国すると日本人は本当に美意識が高いなぁと感じ、驚かされます。身だしなみはもちろん、化粧品やファッションにもこだわりが強く、色々な商品が売られていると思います。また、街を歩くと自分のスタイルを持った方が多くてオシャレだなーと感じることが多いです。日本のファッションに興味がある方は原宿や渋谷に行ってみたり、日本のファッション誌を読んでみることをお勧めします。私の生徒さんでも日本のファッション誌を購読している方がいますが、日本のスタイルは自国のスタイルと違ってとても興味深いと言っていました。私もそう感じます。

日本人女性の美の基準

¿No te ha pasado que estás hablando español, leyendo y te preguntas el origen de la palabra que estás usando o que leíste? A mí sí me ha pasado. Algo que muchos saben, es que el origen de las palabras, particularmente en español proviene del latín, del griego, del árabe, en fin, muchas tienen orígenes llamativos y a mí siempre me ha gustado saber el porqué de las cosas. Escucha, al final puedes comentarme si este origen lo sabías o que creías de la palabra. LA HISTORIA DE LAS PALABRAS

MEG: Well, hello there, Julia! Long time no see!
JULIA: Meg! Hi! What a coincidence! I haven’t seen you in ages! What 
are you doing here?
MEG: I just got a new job in the city, so I’m shopping for some 
clothes. Hey, what do you think of this shirt?
JULIA: Hmmm … well, you know how much I love blue. See? I’ve got 
the same shirt!
MEG: You always did have good taste! What a small world.



LANGUAGE NOTES
• Well, hello there … Notice the emphasis on “hello,” which shows that Meg did not 
expect to see Julia.
• Long time, no see! This is a common expression used to say hello to someone you 
haven’t seen in a long time.
• What a ___! This exclamation shows a great degree of surprise, joy, disappointment, 
etc. (What a surprise to see you here! What a joy to have you with us! What a shame 
that you have to leave so soon! What a wonderful idea that is!)
• You always did have good taste! Notice the stress on “did,” which Meg uses to 
emphasize the fact that Julia DOES have good taste! Meg says it in a joking way 
because Julia likes the same thing that she does.
• What a small world is a common expression used to describe a chance meeting or 
other such coincidence.
