How many hours a day is considered OK in learning a new language?

Although I've already studied 3 languages (English, Persian and Russian), I never tried to learn any of these languages in a short time. Now, I want to learn German, and I want to learn it as soon as possible :)

I'm trying to learn German everyday for several hours, but after certain amount of time studying, I'm starting to notice that everything I learn will be stuck in my short-term memory and I'd forget it all the next day.

So i wast to know whether you face such problem while learning foreign languages? How many hours a day is considered OK so that you'll actually learn new things and not just memorize for a couple of hours?

When I started learning English, I spend 4-6 hours every day, I learned it with my tutors and by myself, doing all the activities like reading, writing, listening… In about a year and a half I became quite conversable, and the most important thing in my learning was motivation.
I also think, that as it’s not your first foreign language and it’s German (not Chinese or Japanese…), you’ll learn it faster than previous ones.
And I usually forget new words, if I don’t need them in my everyday life, so yes, to memorise them requires much more time.

K P, a professional advice would be of great value, but I wanted to know what other language learners think, too :) To be honest, I read about a popular football trainer who learned German in an "extraordinary short period", and that's why I wanted to check whether I can do the same :) it's kinda a self challenge. I have some plans also on pursuing my studies in Austria sometimes later, but not that soon, so that's my second motivation.

Mahdi, what I mean is that I think it is reasonable to explore other directions.
A person who has explored all the other otions and found that reducing hours still makes sense can answer you definitily:)
I'm not such a person:( But try to do it differently. You need a professional advice on 'how' rahter than 'how much' I think... unless you have other equally important things to fill your free time with.

P.S. here I asusme: it is either an exciting experiment and you are curious as to how much can you achieve within a few months - or you for soem reason Really Need to have German B2 quickly.

My question is exactly this: is putting more time really always a plus? sometimes excessive plus may mean minus. That's why I wanted to know what other language learners think. In my case i found out that studying more than 4 hours wasn't effective to learn new things as I'm forgetting all what I learn then quite soon.

I think 0,5-1 hour per day is enough practise to make significant progress. What's more important is that you practise consistently every day, have efficient study methods and know how you learn best. Of course, if you want to put more time into it, it's always a plus.
