At first glance from first chart, there was a continuous downward trend in the number of marriages between 1970 and 2000. As seen from the graph, 2.5 million Americans were more likely to get married in the year 1970 whilst divorce rates in 1970 were at 1 million adults in the USA. Although the marriage rates in 1980 remained constant at 2.5 million, the breaking a marriage rates in the year 1980 were the highest figure between 1970 and 2000 (just below 1.5 million). Couples in the United States were less likely to get married in 1990 (well over 2 million). Furthermore, American couples in the year 1990 got a divorce less than in the year 1980 (just over 1 million). Finally, married couples in The States were at 2 million, which decreased by 6.5 million, comparing with marriage rates in 1970. However, there was the same level of divorce rates in 1970 and 2000 (1 million) As seen on the second bar chart, there was a remarkable figure in marital status for Americans between 1970 and 2000. Adults in the US were most likely to be married life in 1970 (70%) and 2000 (80%). However, marriage rates in the year 2000 diminished as compared with marriage rates in 1970. What’s more, single in the US jumped up at 20% by about 5% for 2000 when comparing with the marital status of unmarried adult in 1980 (nearly 15%). The proportion of widowed for the US residents leveled off at around 7% of married status between 1970 and 2000. It could be seen from the bar chart that the amount of divorced in the year 2000 rose at just below 10% in comparison with the year status in 1970 (approximately 2%).
