I fell even more in love with English after my father passed away.
All my life, until 2017, when he was gone, my father encouraged language learning and knowledge of American culture through the course he enrolled me and my sisters in, through movies (then on VHSs) that he rented to us on weekends, making silly chats during the day in English to see how we were in the language, talking about the times he lived and studied in Washington, his experiences in his youth and his American friends. When he died I saw that what I complained so much in childhood to learn (because I entered the English course at 8 and left at 16) became the greatest gift my father could have left me. Thanks to my father, I am now able to make valuable connections and expand my artistic, professional, personal and collective universe. I miss my father a lot, and it's been very difficult to write this text without crying, but I know he would be (or is) very happy to see me on italki, exchanging with the world, teaching Portuguese and learning English even more.
"See you later, alligator!" as he used to test me.
One day we'll see each other again.
