"blow a gasket(casket?)" what does it mean? In "The Sopranos" a mafia captain kicks the bucket sitting on the toilet. Another one is offered his position but asks: "I need to know that it was not just because somebody was constipated and blew a casket." In this context what does the phrase "blow a casket" mean? Then the other day I came across another phrase in a movie "blow a gasket", do the two have similar implications? I assume they have something to do with pissing somebody off. In the movie the context is about how A accuses B of inappropriate behaviors which would have made his dead father "blow a gasket" if he'd know. So does this only apply to dead ppl? Please help solve my puzzles. Thx.

blow a gasket gasket = 胶圈 Engines and other machines can blow a gasket if they have too much oil, the rubber ring breaks and all sorts of stuff leaks out. This is the sopranos. The guy on the toilet was obviously murdered. He clearly wasn't constipated or didn't "blow a gasket". You need to understand the way these guys communicate with each other. It is all mafia talk. Work it out.

First, I want to say that "blow a casket" does not exist. They must have been the same expression, which is "blow a gasket." You were right to say that it has to do with being pissed off; it means to become extremely angry, and usually involves some sort of meltdown which may or may not include screaming and other things that people commonly do when they're angry.

Edit: Luke is correct. I thought that "blow a gasket" was an analogy to a car engine stalling (and the person subsequently becoming weaker), but instead it means as Luke said, that the person has become very angry.
