What is the difference between a "nursemaid" and a "nanny"? Is the word nursemaid a kind of old expression? Is the word nanny is used only in the U.S.? Thank you!

Yes, nursemaid is an old term that means a lady that looks after children. "Wet Nurse" is an old term, for a woman who suckles and nurses a baby that is not hers. "Nanny" has become a common word in America, in the last few decades. It is traditionally a British term. We used to call someone, who took care of a child a "governness".
