Flavor - Literally "taste" (noun form) such as "This cake has a flavor similar to strawberries ", BUT you can also you use it to refer to the way someone acts. The way they walk, talk, and dress. Another word for this would be "swagger" "She walks with a confident swagger." I could illustrate the same thought with the sentence, "Her walk has a flavor of confidence about her." "A strong scent of ginger" could be used. Scent means smell. However, scent is attached to a noun in most situations. When I think of the word "scent" I try to attach the "smell" to a noun in my mind. The smell of a noun. Fragrance is used for perfumes, or objects that have very pleasing scents. "The frangrance of her perfume is sweet, like warm chocolate." I hope I cleared this up for you!! If you have any more questions, just *hit me up! * The phrase "hit me up" is for young people, under 30 at least. I would call it slang. Use with friends who are young and maybe American. It means "to contact" Smell refers to the thing that you use your nose for. What you gain from using your nose on an object would be its "smell"

Flavour is if you're tasting something. E.g. Lemon has a tangy flavour. Scent, odour, smell, and fragrance are used if you are smelling something. I usually see scent used with pleasant smells, whereas odour would be used with something foul. E.g. The scent of the perfume was very sweet, but the combination of all of the perfumes in the store created a disgusting odour. Smell is really neutral. It can also be used as a verb. I.e. The smell that I smelled was pleasant. Fragrance can also be used to mean perfume. It's a bit more formal than scent. I don't see it used as commonly in the same context as the other words you listed. A strong scent of ginger sounds good to me. xo

Flavor you use when tasting or eating something. Scent, odor, smell, and fragrance are all very similar but used in different circumstances. Scent is a general word and can be used like this: "The store had lotions in many different scents." Odor is usually used in a negative way such as: "The trash had a strong odor." Smell can be a noun or a verb. As a noun an example sentence would be: "The smell of the popcorn drifted across the room." Fragrance is more of a positive term as opposed to odor and can be used like this: "Her perfume smelled of fragrant roses." Or "The singer Lady Gaga came out with a new fragrance." As for your sentence about ginger it is correct but you could also replace flavor with scent if you were actually eating the ginger in something.
