What's the difference between "I am called Hector" and "My name is Hector"?

I agree with Logan. But I also think there is a difference between "I'm called Hector" and "my name is Hector" I'm called Hector - Hector is not your real name, but just a nickname given by the people who know you. you can also say "my name is X, but people call me Hector" My name is Hector - your real name is Hector, the one which your parents gave you at your birth.

I guess a more natural way of saying the first example would be just 'I'm Hector'. This could be used when you greet someone in the same way you would use 'My name's Hector' They are both introductions to someone you might be meeting for the first time and you might simply add 'Hi' or 'Hello' at the beginning. Both have the same meaning, just the second method is more common in day to day speech.
