Hi... Can someone please tell me about the concept of this song? And what does G&T mean?(Elbow Band)
I am electric with a bottle in me
Got a bottle in me
And glory be, these fuckers are ignoring me
I'm from another century
I am a preacher when I've got it on me
And I've got it on me
And glory be these fuckers are ignoring me
We never learn from history
Hey, I am the boy who loved her so in every song
And I design that little mystery on your tongue
I've broken jaws protecting laws to keep you free
I've made your day so take a seat by me
I am an old tree, gonna' talk my jaw free
Someone come and get me
Another night beside myself would finish me
Give us G&T and sympathy
I am the die hard with an empty dance card propping up a young bar
I'm pouring oil in double time upon the troubled rising tide inside of me
Upon my history
Hey, I am the boy who loved her so in every song
And I design that little mystery on your tongue
I've broken jaws protecting laws to keep you free
I've made your day so take a seat by me

Hello :) First of all G&T is a popular way to say "Gin and Tonic", an alcoholic drink.
I interpret the song to be an old man who is an alcoholic and who criticises the younger generations who haven't learned from the mistakes of his generation. He tries to explain his history and experience but is ignored, and he thinks that he should be listened to because it's thanks to his generation that the young generations enjoy the freedoms that they have today (but the young generation don't recognise this).
I understand he was part of the generation who was in a World War or something...
Hope that helps

Asfane:
We have a saying in the USA. "You cannot make a Silk Purse out of a Sow's (Pig's) Ear."
Do not attempt to find something termed "meaning" in all songs.
Not all songs have meaning. In fact, some popular music, if it had a meaning at all, had a meaning about the equivalent of a casual remark at best, and utter nonsense speech at the worst.
Suffice it to say, the author of the lyrics is "playing God" in which he writes as some sort of prophet of doom who manages to produce some rhyming verse, void of meaning.
That is why the author of the verses is best characterized as a "musician". Music does not require a "meaning". The use of words implies "meaning" but that does not factually show meaning in the verses.
The communication is plaintive, petulant, rather like the ramblings of some drunken person who has no clue as to how to communicate. I doubt that you will find anything useful in those verses. Not all verses have clear or objective meaning.

Really, it's up to how you interpret the lyrics. Here are a couple of thoughts (comments at the bottom):

In one live performance, the singer explains: "It's from the point of view of an old man in a young bar."
G&T is a gin and tonic.
