Nothing beats looking up a dictionary yourself. Here is one typical entry for "respectable": respectable (rɪˈspɛktəbəl) adj 1. having or deserving the respect of other people; estimable; worthy 2. having good social standing or reputation 3. having socially or conventionally acceptable morals, standards, etc: a respectable woman. 4. relatively or fairly good; considerable: a respectable salary. 5. fit to be seen by other people; presentable (Collins English Dictionary) One difficulty for learners is the distinction between "respectable" and "respected", when it is used in relation to a person. The difference is this: "respectable" - you look at his CV, status, apparent behaviour, etc and conclude that society would think it is a situation deserving of respect, but you are not saying anything about whether in fact anybody respects him. Example: He is in a respectable profession, has a respectable income, goes to church every Sunday and does community work. By all appearance, he is a respectable person. Only he himself knows that he is a liar and a criminal and has swindled millions of dollars from innocent investors. respected - It is a fact that people respect him. Example: Don Corleone was the Godfather of the American mafia. It was not a respectable situation in society. He was, however, much loved and respected by those who knew him. He was a much respected member of the mafia. We are happy to help with difficulties such as this one, but we would like you to do the groundwork yourself in future and show and discuss it openly here before you ask questions about difficult points. This will be the best way for you to learn.

Respectable It's an adjective, and it means that you think someone deserves respect. It generally describes someone else's view of a person. e.g. He is a respectable person. Respected It's a verb. It's the past tense of respect, meaning to give respect to someone. e.g. He is respected. Respectful It's an adjective, and it describes the way in which someone acts, in this case with respect. e.g. He acts with respect, therefore, he is respectful.
