the meaning of “It's the one who won't be given, who cannot seem to give” I want to know how to understand the lyrics “It's the one who won't be given, who cannot seem to give” in the song THE ROSE, especially the word GIVEN.Sorry, the lyric is "It's the one who won't be taken, who cannot seem to give" and the meaning of taken.

The song is about love, the giving and receiving of love, the difficulties in the giving and receiving of love; and the beauty, wonder and grace of love. So that phrase in the song is about one who cannot receive love (be taken by love) and therefore cannot give love. A great song and a great movie.

Well, the line is a play on the opposites "give" and "take". "The one who won't be taken" can mean a person who refuses to be possessed and wishes to remain independent. However, "taken" can also mean "deceived" or "charmed/entranced". A person who is suspicious of other people's motivations cannot be generous. Or, a person who doesn't surrender him/herself emotionally has nothing to offer. There's no simple explanation here. Since it's a poetic line, it may be open to interpretation.

Not familiar with the song, but I'll take a guess. "Taken" is used in English to denote that someone is in a relationship. Example: "Oh, she's pretty. I'd like to go on a date with her." "Sorry, she's taken." If that's how it's being used in the song, it would be referring to someone who refuses to be in a relationship. They always remain single.
