Japanese: 日本語で「to curl up」って何と言う? I found the following sentence online. Is this the correct way to say "I like to curl up with a book and read." in Japanese? 私は寝転んで丸くなって本を読むのが好きだ。 I wonder if you can just say 私は丸くなって本を読むのが好きだ。instead. This dictionary says that 丸くなる (maruku naru) means "to curl up", but perhaps placing 寝転んで (from nekorobu) before it makes it clearer that you mean in the sense of lying down and curling up though. Japanese natives: By the way, in American English, "to curl up" is usually used in the context of taking a nap, relaxing with a book, or watching TV while curled up in a ball like this on the couch. Of course, kids also curl up in a ball on the floor when they are playing around, etc. as well. For reference, here is a photo of a girl curled up in bed with a book: http://asset-f.soup.io/asset/9663/4732_faaa.jpeg Here is a photo of someone curled up on a couch watching TV: http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2132/2262287940_32433af5dd_z.jpg Here is a woman curled up in bed napping: http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/z/pretty-woman-curling-up-bed-32233147.jpg

Yes, we say 寝転んで丸くなって and you can also say 寝転んで丸まって. Especially, the first and the third photo, we say so, or ベッドで丸くなって/丸まって. I wouldn't say 丸くなって for the second photo, I would say simply 寝転んで. It depends on the person but I would say 寝転んで本を読むのが好きです because sometimes I don't form like that, it's only my case. Anyway, your sentence is correct. I hope this heps you.
