information is JUST a list of facts or SIMPLE relations of one event to another. Knowledge is gathered from information and permits the intelligent man to do the following: - explain complex relations (a chain of events) - making an abstract model for the events - PREDICT other events base upon the abstract model (theory) - figure out ways to corroborate or falsify the theory. - improve the theory (leaving SOME knowledge intact) - completely dismiss the theory (still leaving SOME knowledge intact) much more could be said about this subject even by people quite far from Einstein's capabilities in that realm.

Because it's passive. Having access to information doesn't mean that you know or understand. This is a particular issue in our current digital age. There's now a whole world of data at our fingertips, but sometimes it seems that the more information we have the less we know.

A textbook you haven't read is full of information, but it isn't knowledge because you don't _know_ it yet. (And if you read something without understanding it, and you don't know how to use it, it is still not knowledge. I can read Ted Willliams' "The Science of Hitting" and still not _know_ how to hit a baseball). However, I see that the supposed quote has a longer form: "Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience." By the way, I wonder if Einstein really said that. Einstein is a "quote magnets." Instead of admitting that nobody knows the source, people attribute any witty remark to Mark Twain, any goofy self-contradiction to Yogi Berra, and anything that's intelligent-sounding or is about intelligence to Einstein. It seems that Einstein did NOT say that. WIkiquote points me a website which in turn quotes" Unspun, Finding Facts in a World of Disinformation," by Brooks Jackson and Kathleen Hall Jamieson: "Barbara Wolff at the Albert Einstein Archives of the Jewish National and University Library in Jerusalem... told us: 'The quote in question is not known to me, and was not found among Einstein's identifiable quotes.'" Who did say it? Rock musician Frank Zappa did, but he may not have been the first. According to https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Frank_Zappa in 1979 he wrote “Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is the best."
