I think the most improtant reason is .. it easy to read and remember by the westerners... Perhaps the use of English names among Chinese comes down to the long tradition of China giving a Chinese name to foreign people, so therefore it would seem natural for Chinese to pick themselves a western name? and its depends..not every sigle Chinese would like to have an English.. like me..i only use my own name-Bingbing~ i like to thanx my parent gave mesuch a meaningful name..

we like our chinese name~ english name is a appendant which proceed from the long-term english study. it just like a symbol that indicate our status. it's easy to read and remember by colleague and the man who is unfamiliar.you know chinese name is complicated .but we use our chinese name in most time .

To me. my chinese name is too long to remember so i use occidental name coz its more simple.

For me, is not only easy to remember, but also due to I am a chiristian, so I have a christian name in front. So, my full name become= Amanda Ang Hui Ying~~~ hope this anwser ur question. ^^
