"That's legit!" Has anyone else heard of the word "legit?" It seems to have really caught on in my city (a college town) in the past couple years. It's passed through the phrase when everyone was enamoured of it and used it every other sentence, and now seems a pretty standard slang word. I'm very curious to know if this word has developed in other regions and among other age groups, as well. Also, I've noticed it being used most often as an adjective, synonymously as any of "cool," "amazing," "wonderful," "serious," "okay," etc. But it's also used sometimes like an adverb: "I legit passed that exam" or "That movie legit put me to sleep," sort of as "really" or "definitely." A bit less often, I've also heard the full words "legitimate" and "legitimately" used in the same, new, broad sense as "legit." What about you guys? Thank you!

Sure, it's "totally legit" in my area! I mean it's, like, standard and stuff dude! P.S. I believe the linguists who brought in the idea of " language is dynamic", like, legit ruined the language, i mean they legit f...ed it up! Now nobody speaks his mother tongue correctly any more!

"legit" is pretty popular here (US- west coast) it was used for pretty much everything at one point, but now it is pretty much used for stuff like "this ebay product looks legit" or "this job offer sounds legit" --much closer to its original usage.

His complaint is legit. = He has a valid reason for complaining.
