Sofia Arista ✈

I’ve tried many teachers on italki and other platforms, and Sofia is one of the best. Most other teachers either have no lesson plan or they strictly follow a boring workbook, whereas Sofia’s classes are very dynamic and you can tell she cares a lot about your progress. She’s always on time, with good internet, and will try to accommodate to your schedule. Since she is also a big traveler herself, she can relate to a lot of travel experiences around the world and knows what it’s like to navigate through different languages and cultures. I highly recommend Sofia as a teacher and thanks to her, my standards for recognizing high quality teachers has increased.

Sofia is an amazing teacher! It’s been about 18 months and in that time I’ve gone from knowing no Spanish to being able to speak and comprehend more than I could have imagined. Sofia is always prepared, encouraging and fun! I recommend her to anyone - Gracias Sofia!

Sofia is an excellent teacher. There will always be times when you are studying a language when you hit a specific roadblock. These often occur in areas where there isn't a 1-1 correspondence between your language and Spanish. For myself, this was the use of the subjunctive mood in Spanish. During these times, studying in a classroom or self-study might not be enough for you. Sofia really shines in these predicaments; she offers clear explanations of complex and difficult aspects of Spanish. It also helps that her English is excellent, giving her the ability to let you know the times where things can't be directly translated between languages. Her clear and concise explanations of concepts gave me the confidence to understand the basic rules surrounding the Spanish subjunctive mood.

I've been taking lessons with Sofía for over a year now and she is one of the best tutors on the platform. I asked her to help introduce me to more Latin American literature, and she's gone above and beyond to introduce me to famous writers as well as those known in smaller circles. My reading comprehension has skyrocketed after our classes and I've gone from struggling heavily with Spanish texts to being able to now comfortably read the majority of what I come across. I could always count on her to come to class on time and to be well-prepared. Despite her considerable knowledge of Spanish grammar concepts, literature analysis, and Latin American world history, she never came across as a "know-it-all", and instead was so patient, kind, and easygoing. Every lesson felt like a lesson with a friend (who makes you feel smarter by proxy, lol!). Sofía is a truly great professor who you will not regret spending time with. ¡Gracias, Sofía!
