Hey, I’m Abu. I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa but I’m originally from Mali through my father. I started teaching on italki because I wanted to work on the internet and one of the ways I can do that is by helping people improve their language skills. After having a few jobs and even working at a language center, I decided that creating a path for myself online is the best choice and I’ve been happy ever since.
I’m determined and I love challenges that make me a better person. Since I started, I’ve had over 2500 hours of lesson time, tutoring students from over 50 different countries around the world.عني كمعلّم
I'm tolerant, patient, and understanding and I think these qualities are needed to teach something new to someone.
These qualities allow students to be relaxed during the lesson, which is very important for learning.
I have a clear South African accent that is easy to understand. Depending on the level of the student, I speak at a comprehensible pace.
I know three languages: English, French and Turkish.
I also love interacting with other people, having good conversations, and learning about their countries and cultures because I think it’s also beneficial for me.

For my conversation classes, I have two ways of conducting the lessons: either through controlled practice or a freer, informal discussion. You get to pick what works well for you.
Whether you are learning English for work, travel or whatever other reason, we can work on topics and use materials that best suit you.
I offer material to help along your English learning journey as well as helpful feedback and corrections.

English TeacherFor five months (April-July), I worked part-time as an English tutor at American Life in Samsun, Türkiye. Though I’d helped friends before, this was my first formal tutoring job. I taught several 1-hour group conversation classes each week, which helped me gain confidence in speaking to groups and teaching new concepts. I enjoy helping others, and teaching English gives me that rewarding feeling of making a difference.
2022 - 2024
English TutorI started teaching on Italki as soon as I completed my 120-hour TEFL certificate. I saw it as a way to enter the online market and I soon realized that I enjoyed the one-on-one lessons. I’ve been able to help others improve their communication skills as well as my own. This experience has helped me learn more about myself, and what I want from life and it motivates me to improve.

البكالوريوس - International Trade and LogisticsI moved to Türkiye in 2018 and spent a year learning Turkish before starting university. Studying in a different language was challenging and often demotivating—I even considered quitting. However, I’m glad I persevered. During university, I developed an interest in international trade, especially after taking International Business and Marketing during my third and fourth year. I want to be an expert in this field.
