As a community teacher on Italki, I specialize in teaching Finnish. It is important for me to make the lessons suitable for each student, so I usually discuss students' preferences first and then provide my thoughts on how we should approach learning this language. The key is to keep the learning process interesting and fun, because that makes it also effective.

El finlandés tiene fama de ser un idioma difícil, pero yo creo que el problema no es la dificultad sino que tiene una lógica diferente a la del español o el inglés. Por eso, al principio hay que sumergirse en la estructura del idioma (qué es super interesante! y que además explica un poco la forma de ver el mundo de los finlandeses). As a teacher I am encouraging, and try to activate my students to use as much Finnish as possible. People usually tell me they can be themselves in my company. This no stress state helps them to express themselves better in Finnish as the brain has no reason to activate the sympathetic nervous system (fight/flight/freeze response) which would compromise higher brain functions. I have about 2000 hours of teaching experience, mostly online but also face to face.
