"The Trojan War was a legendary conflict between the Greeks (Achaeans) and the Trojans. It all began with an event at the wedding of Peleus and Thetis, the parents of Achilles. Eris, the goddess of strife, was not invited to the wedding, so she threw a golden apple into the banquet hall. The apple was labeled “For the most beautiful,” and three goddesses—Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite—immediately claimed it, causing an argument between them. The gods asked Paris, a prince of Troy, to decide which goddess was the fairest. Each goddess offered him a tempting bribe: Hera promised him power, Athena promised him wisdom, and Aphrodite promised him the love of the most beautiful mortal woman, Helen. Paris chose Aphrodite, leading to his abduction of Helen, which caused the Trojan War."
