Why is it "returns to capital" rather than "returns of capital (ROC)"?
A lasting escape from the middle-income trap requires a more fundamental transition. Countries at this intermediate stage of development can encounter a variety of pitfalls. They may face diminishing ***returns to capital***.
Return on capital is used by finance and investment professionals and has a fairly strict definition.
Returns to capital is used in a more general way by economists to mean the benefits that accrue to investments.
Return of capital is also possible too and this tends to mean getting back the amount invested and nothing more.
