#RisingBilingualStar My wife and I are making an emphatic and deliberate effort to raise our 2 boys trilingual. And so, far we're winning at it! We are doing this for the grandparents, and to give our kids the superpower of multilingualism. Our kids speak fluently Spanish, English, and Polish. Fingers crossed they'll remain like that. We live in New York City, so English is the dominant language. We gotta be diligent! We are starting to see how English, being the common language in society, pushes our kids toward speaking English. It's the "cool" language their friends speak. Fortunately, there's a lot of Polish and Spanish around. Also, it's normal in NYC for families to be like ours. I am grateful for having this environment.

Hi, it's very interesting what you write, the more so because you have the effects and the kids start to speak several languages - including Polish, which is not so simple. My wife and I also want our kids to speak English, and then Spanish. Polish is our mother tongue. Can you tell me what methods you use? You try to talk in a foreign language at home, children watch cartoons in a foreign language ...

Great!! We are trying the same with our boy. My husband speaks Turkish, me Russian. I’m not Russian, but I’m fluent in it, cause lived there many years in my childhood. Then we live raised in Berlin with my husband. Now our boy (5) is fluent in all three languages. Fingers crossed🤞🏼 At the beginning is sometimes not so easy cause you have really disciplined yourself to stay in one language and not to mix. But it’s possible and really profitable for the children and even for yourself.
