Have you been learning a language for a long time? Then something so simple about the language surprised you after visiting or moving to the country? I have! I have been studying Japanese on and off for 15 years. I just moved this year to Japan and noticed that people say to me 「おはようございます」(ohayou gozaimasu) or "good morning" to me even when it isn't morning! I go to school here and I see teachers and classmates in the afternoon or in the hallway, and if it isn't the end of the day yet they say to me「おはようございます」→ohayou gozaimasu! So I have inferred this can also be a way of saying "hello" when it's the first time you've seen someone you know that day. It doesn't seem to only mean "good morning" Is there anything you've learned once visiting a country that surprised you about the language or culture?
