I'm wondering that how I call a container, which I may put in many pencils, pens, colored pencils etc.,shaped like a pot ? We call it "筆筒" in Chinese. Besides, is it being used in Western countries quite often? Thanks for your answers!

I am from the US and in my family we have always used repurposed items to hold pens and pencils. Are you referring to something specifically made for holding writing tools? If so, you may have found one of those special "untranslatable" terms unique to a particular language--congratulations! If I had to refer one of our miscellaneous cups or jars, I might call it a "pen holder" or "pencil holder," but more likely I would just say "that cup with the pens and pencils in it." I've never encountered a special term for them. In the photo is an example--it's a souvenir cup of sentimental value that got chipped, so rather than throw it away we repurposed it to hold pens, pencils, and sometimes other miscellaneous small things.

I call it a "pencil jar." "Pencil jars" are common in the United States. Quite often they are objects that were originally for some other purpose. For example, if flowers come in a nice wide-mouthed vase, after being used for flowers you might use it as a pencil jar. Similarly, glasses or cups are sometimes used as pencil jars. And if you look on a stationery supplies website for "pencil jar," you will see many things that are not really like "jars" at all--like metal mesh containers or plastic containers--that are called "pencil jars." We also call them "pencil holders."
