Somewhere I read a recommendation to practice languages instantly with other people on www.speaky.com. I tried it Saturday. Unfortunately I can not find instructions. On first log on I had the option of text or video, and I was not able to use video at that time to practice, so I chose ¨text.¨ Now I can find no where to change it.
Also, can anyone explain how it works? The other people that sent me a request to practice seemed not to understand it much more than I did. I felt completely lost about what the expectations and norms there might be.
Avoid it like the plague. I tried it and immediately regretted it. The site is a horrible amateur hack. The only working function is to connect you with other people, and it is up to you how to proceed once connected. You can try asking questions of the site admins, but they won't respond. They advertise as a language site, but really it is a meetup site where some people may choose to practice languages together. Think of it as Interpals without any of the extra features.
The worst part is that I could find no way to delete my account. I wrote the admins about that that too, no answer.
At least for me, the audio chat never worked, so I would suggest you to use it with Skype, exchanging your IDs in the site text chat.
The quality of the site has deteriorated a lot in the past months once they tried to make it more of a app for phones and curbed the website, haven't had a conversation with a real person in weeks, mostly spam bots.
