Is there a better way to offer package deals?
Yesterday it was the birthday of a student I’ve had since the start of my Italki teaching career. Her father wanted to buy her 10 lessons for her birthday. I usually offer 10 lessons for $140 but because it was her birthday and she has been with me for so long I wanted to give her a reduced price.

We tried three different ways. Firstly, she sent me the package request with the normal price and I tried to change the price before accepting it. I could change some other things about the package but I couldn’t change the price using this method.

Secondly, I tried to send her a lesson offer but I could only send one lesson at a time and she would have to choose the class time instead of getting to choose whenever she wanted if she had a package so it wasn’t ideal.

Finally, we both had to be online and I changed the price of my lessons for all the students. She then booked the package at the reduced price then I changed them back.

So is there a better way to offer one specific student a package deal?

Go easy on me as this is my first month teaching with Italki so I’m still trying to learn how to use the platform. Before anyone says anything about one student getting special treatment, I usually give special offers too long term students to thank them for their loyalty.

Yes, Kyle, way # 3 is the most effective way to give a special price for one of your students. My teacher also offers me a very special price since I was her first student on italki and I do it the same way with my student as well.

As Chris mentioned, this is one of several things that are repeatedly discussed with italki support along with instant tutoring which they removed around 2 years ago!

You can write 5 things that you would like to change or suggest on this link:

You have to be really patient with italki support because it takes them years to change anything. 90% of italki support team accounts are test accounts, so they don’t really use the website as much as we do, therefore they don’t experience themselves the things that we need or continuously complain about.

Unfortunately no. This is occasionally discussed on the private teachers discussion forum.

Abdullah, It’s a great idea that I used once with my teacher. The only problem is that those extra lessons won’t count towards the language challenge that many of italki students are doing this month. Also, they won’t count in the lessons the teacher taught.

I think the easiest way is to give her more lessons in the package and just mark yourself as unavailable on your schedule in the time slots that she chooses for the extra lessons.

That's a shame Chris :(

Do you think I did it in the most effective way in the end or do you suggest doing it in any other ways?

Maybe we should send it to Italki as a recommendation when they update the application. It would help both students and teachers.
