Po-tah-to po-tah-to What does "Po-tah-to po-tah-to" mean? I heard it in a movie and when I searched for the meaning I found its origin was a song. But the meaning is not yet clear to me. Can you please explain me the meaning of this term with an example showing how to use it?

"Let's Call the Whole Thing Off" (1930's song) George and Ira Gershwin The meaning is that two people can be friends, but still do and say things differently, as well as have different outlooks and opinions Lyrics:. You say either (ee ther) And I say either (eye ther) You say neither (nee ther) And I say neither (nai ther) Either, either, neither, neither Let's call the whole thing off You like potatoes (po TAY toes) And I like potatoes (po TAH toes) You like tomatoes (to MAY toes) And I like tomatoes (to MAH toes) Potatoes, potatoes, tomatoes, tomatoes Let's call the whole thing off But oh, if we call the whole thing off Then we must part And oh, if we ever part Then that might break my heart
