CJ Thompson
How would you say my name in Korean? I was wondering if a Korean speaker would be able to pronounce my name properly, or which one would be the easiest to say: -Courtney -Jean -CJ I would prefer to be called CJ when I move there. However, I wouldn't mind being called Jean if it is easier to say. Courtney is my first name, and I was wondering how a native Korean speaker would pronounce this - also, how would I write my name using Hangul? I would really appreciate any help with this ^__^

Most of the native English speakers seem to prefer to be called by their first name (given name) or nickname. We, Koreans do not call others by their given name only unless they have a very close friendship because we think it is very rude to call someone's name without a title. Therefore, even when we meet foreigners, we tend to hesitate to call their first name only. Anyway, I think the best way is to say, "my name is Courtney Jean but just call me CJ (or Jean)". By the way, I don't think both Jean and CJ are difficult for Koreans to pronounce. But Courtney could be because of the "r" sound, though in Modern British English, this "r" sound is dropped away. I think Canadians still reserve the pronunciation of "r" like Americans.

My name's Courtney and people call me "코트니", "커트니" or "콧니". I ended up asking my friend to give me a Korean name so that I'd be able to write my name in Hanja. ^^
