I love Italian culture and language. I can easily understand it because my native language is Spanish. Both languages are from the same family of "Latin". The language of the Romans. Spanish is like a dialect of Latin because the Romans ruled Spain for many years but Spanish also got influenced by Arabic because the Islamic Moorish Empire ruled Spain for 800 years. There is around 8,000 Spanish words from Arabic. I think Spanish is more important because it's a Global language. You can use it in Spain, Latin America and United States. Italian is only used in Italy and they have many dialects. For example the dialect of Sicily and Sardinia are closer to Spanish because the Spanish King of Aragon ruled these Italian islands.

Depending in how much effort you put on it. I would suggest you to evaluate your objectives and then choose the best. Spanish is spoken by many people around the world and it is one of the three most used languages in the Internet. Italian is used in art and gastronomy. However, if it is a hobby, you should look around you and check which language has the higher chance to join your everyday. I mean having South American neighbors or an Italian friend, this way you can practice your new language more often than in a classroom or a videocall.

I think that really depends on what your native language is and how your native language differs from those two languages; for example, I'm a native English speaker and I find Spanish more easy to learn because it's somewhat similar to English (e.g. "no" in Spanish is "no", that's like one of the easiest things in Spanish), however, I haven't gotten much into Italian, but it might be easier for you to learn Italian, if you really want to find out, learn some words in each of the languages and find out which one seems easiest to you. I heard that "ciao" in Italian means both "hello" and "goodbye". In my opinion, I think Spanish would be easier to learn, but maybe that's just me.
