I'm not touching that. about the sentence "I'm not touching that." Question 1. what does the sentence mean? Does it mean "i dont think so " or"sorry, i didn't mean to say that to let you think about the bad thing you go through" Question 2. when i talk to the others , could i use this kinda of sentence to comfort my friends when they are in bad mood? How am i supposed to make the full of the sentence in my daily life? Can you come up with some dialogues to help me by using the sentence? this sentence comes from The Vampire Diaries (American TV series) and the whole passage : Bonnie: Are you sober yet? Caroline: No. Bonnie: Keep drinking. I gotta get you home. I gotta get me home. Caroline: Why didn't he go for me? You know, how come The guys that I want never want me? Bonnie: I'm not touching that. Caroline: I'm inappropriate. I always say the wrong thing. And... Elena always says the right thing. She doesn't even try! And he just picks her. And she's always the one that everyone picks, For everything. And i try so hard, And... I'm never the one. Bonnie: It's not a competition, Caroline. Caroline: Yeah, it is. (thank you for helping me learn this language point!)

It means 'I am not becoming involved in a discussion of that question'. It's not intended to comfort. Bonnie knows that a discussion of that topic - "how come The guys that I want never want me?" - might lead to her friend hearing something that will hurt her and she will be angry with Bonnie. So, she wants to avoid the topic.
