What does "competitive salary" mean? I have been reading a job advert and it was written: "The company offers a competitive salary and benefits package." I have search it on internet but the results are very contradictory; lower than the market, average, slightly higher than the market. Do you know what "competitive salary" exactly means?

Competitive salary usually means that the corporation pays as well or better than other like corporations. Ex. Target employees paid as well or better than Wal-Mart employees I have found this definition and i think this is good

"competitive salary" means a salary at or above the "market rate" (what competitors currently pay) for similar work. Often times, companies will say "competitive salary" because they don't want to disclose the actual salary, which is actually below market or at least not particularly attractive.

It means that you will get paid the "normal" or a bit above the norm amount for someone in that same field in your area.

Competitive salary means, I'm going to use a scenario to make it more understandable. So if I got minimum wage its not very competitive because every one else gets it and its the lowest pay, but if I was a banker I would expect a better wage that fits into sometime the other people get in the same line of work and not below it. So if for a job most people for that job got £100 then I would expect that job to have around the same salary. imagine a race if your 50 and the other person is 60 you up your speed so you reach the 60 and you are in a competitive market. Hope this helps any other questions please put them in the comments I will be happy to answer them.
