Sobre vs. acerca de: Are there regional differences in the usage of these prepositions? Hablo mucho sobre mi familia vs. Hablo mucho acerca de mi familia. Does the preference for using these two prepositions differ between Spain and Latin America?

Hello, Karen, in Spain both expression have de same meaning. Maybe "sobre" sound more familiar and "acerca de" is more formal or polite.

As a native speaker of Spanish (from Spain) I'd say that according to my experience, more than a regional difference there is a slightly difference in formality. In usual oral speaking the most usual preposition used after "hablar" would be: hablar de hablar sobre hablar acerca de While de/sobre are both normally used in oral speaking, "Acerca de", sounds a bit more formal.

Hola Karen, As far as I know, it's the same in Spain and Latinamerica. And both: preposition ''sobre'' and the ''expression ''acerca de'', means the same. The only difference may be in the use more formal of ''acerca de'' versus the more standard ''sobre''. ¡Saludos! Emilio Ramón
