"step off" meaning?
Here is the context:
In my culture, death, is not the end.
It's more of a... stepping-off point.
Does it mean "set out"? What other meanings does it have? I can't find the phrase in my dictionary. Thank you.
To add to the other Michael. Examples of what you could say is
'Death is just the end of one life and the beginning of another'
'Death is the transition from this world into the next'
'Death is the start of a new eternal life'

"step off" is not a phrasal verb here. The words have their literal meaning.
When you leave a train at a station, you step off the train onto the platform. The idea is that death is not an empty void but you leave this earth and move to a different place.
