How do I use "zu", "zum", "zur"- is this correct? Would it be correct to say that (, in situations where you would need some form of "zu",) "zu" is used when there is no article, and then if there is a article required, you would use either "zur (zu + der)", or "zum (zu + dem)" (depending on the gender of the word you are using it with)?

Yes, that is absolutely correct. For example for movement to somebody's place: Ich gehe zu Peter. (proper name: no article) Ich gehe zum Arzt. (masculine) Ich gehe zur Polizei. (feminine)

Almost, but don't forget "zu den" (which doesn't get contracted) for the plural.
