Help with memorization of hiragana and katakana Does anyone have advice for memorizing hiragana and katakana? I’m having a hard time and it seems like most teachers expect you to get that far by yourself.

Hi, I used this website a lot when I started learning japanese : https://realkana.com/ It was really efficient for me but it depends on the ppl. I was learning "line by line", for example first line : A, I, U, E, O Step 1, I select the line and study it on the website and write every kana that pop (You can find the stroke order here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiragana#/media/File:Table_hiragana.svg) Step 2, when I feel like I can remember quickly enough how to read I try to only write it. So, I write A I U E O on a paper and try to remember how to write the kana, I will repeat until I remember. Step 3, I add a second line : ka, ki, ku, ke, ko + a, i, u, e, o. It's important to keep the one you already learned so you're making sure you will not forget them. etc...... I learned kana in 1 week with this technic ! It's important to find which way to learn is better for you because after kana, you will have to learn kanji aswell so it's good to know how to start. Hope my answer is clear enough and helpful.

You could download a table of hiragana and katakana (五十音图),learning one row one day, after a week , one row one day .( Or you could download an app named ‘五十音图‘ to learn. (It’s a Chinese application for learning hiragana and katakana) I just spend one week to learn it , but completely remember them.)

When I was learning in a classroom environment, my teacher would give us five kana per day to memorize and then quiz us the next class. I studied by writing each kana over and over again and testing myself on quizlet. If you're looking to challenge yourself and increase your phonetic understanding of the language, another really good exercise is to sound out the Japanese pronunciation of English words and then write them in katakana.
