What does N/A mean - Richard's answer Yesterday I asked "What is the meaning of the abbreviation: n/a (= N/A)". I have always been confused about the meaning of this abbreviation. Does it mean "not applicable" or "not available". The two meanings are very different. So, I consulted 4 dictionaries and Wikipedia. They all say it means "not applicable", but some of them say that it also may mean "not available". When someone writes N/A or n/a which meaning applies........ I believe this is why many people chose to write the abbreviations as "N/App" and "N/Av". In this way the meaning is clearer. I thought it was interesting because even the dictionaries and other resources do not all agree with each other. So, I feel I should ask all the English-speaking governments and language authorities in the world to change N/A to N/App or N/Av.

N/A, as far as I know, is not used in Brasil, or portuguese language at all.

On some sites, the users info, if you choose your asl, then it will be displayed publicly, if you don't choose, it will just show as "N/A".
