I am male, British, born in London. I spent my formative years in Australia and returned to the UK in 1979 at the age of 22. I was born with a great love of the natural world and I am a compulsive reader, both fiction and not fiction. I studied biology and then ecology at university (University of Exeter) and did my Celta in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2006. I have far too many hobbies, so am not expert at any of them , but so many things are interesting. Although I am late middle-aged (64 in 2021) I live an extremely active life, running, cycling, walking and playing football with people half my age. I currently live in Siem Reap Cambodia, with Angkor Archeological Park only 12 kms away.Ich als Lehrkraft
I have 18 years experience teaching in foreign countries. I have taught ESL, or Science in English in Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Greece and Thailand. Every job has been different, with some strictly limited to certain text books and others simply "go and teach them speaking and writing". I believe education is one of the most important jobs anyone can do. I also believe in encouraging learning for the sake of, and the joy of, learning. I can, and have, taught people to pass exams (Cambridge, Michigan and IELTS), but I much prefer helping people learn because they want to learn, because the learning is what is important.Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
Given the freedom to choose I believe drama is an excellent method of learning a foreign language once you have the basics, and love role play as a speaking practicing exercise. However I am flexible and can organize lessons in a wide variety of ways and am happy to work with people in the way they personally desire. I love helping people learn and am still friends with many students from various countries, and from 20+ years ago, these students now have their own children going to school, the whole experience is amazing.Mein Unterrichtsmaterial

At the end of the year, we scheduled five lessons. Because Gorden mentioned that he wants to focus on offline life, his online teaching will come to an end after completing our lessons. After the final class today, Sally, this 8-year-old, was so sad that she almost cried. Being an exceptionally sensitive child and struggling with language limitations in expressing herself (just like me writing now), she said she would wait on italki. She asked me to keep a close eye on Gorden and, if he opens up class slots again, to make sure to book lessons for her.
