I'm currently doing a master's degree in robotics & AI.
I previously worked as a software engineer focusing on computer vision.
My favorite part about teaching online is being able to connect with people all around the world. I enjoy speaking with other programmers and IT specialists, as well as getting to know people from other walks of life.
I am a language learner too and am currently learning Finnish, the language of my host country.
Ich als Lehrkraft
Please don't be deterred by my old video. It was recorded in 2014 with a cheap webcam. I now have much better videoconferencing hardware.
I previously spent many years teaching English both privately and in language schools in Poland and Spain. I prefer giving private lessons to teaching in the classroom, as they allow me to really connect with people as individuals. I try to get to know my students on a personal level and be sensitive to their learning styles, personalities, and goals.
My favorite way of teaching is through discussions about any interesting topic. I note errors in grammar and pronunciation without interrupting, but pause from time to time to briefly go over corrections.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
I think it's a shame that so few teachers make the effort to correct their students' mistakes. In so doing, they allow learners to form and strengthen bad habits. I believe it's important to know when we are making mistakes, so that we can fix them and then speak with confidence. However, I try to balance the amount of corrections I give to avoid frustration. I select the most important grammar and pronunciation points to focus on, rather than nitpicking every single error. For students who enjoy more detailed corrections, I can also share my complete notes after each lesson.
