Hi there! It’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is João, and I am a professional Portuguese teacher from Brazil, born and raised in the heart of the São Paulo countryside. I have just returned from a period abroad teaching Portuguese at the University of Georgia in the US. I couldn't be more excited to come back after learning so much from this experience!
I am truly passionate about popular culture. In 2020 I obtained an M.A. from the State University of São Paulo, where I studied Wonder Woman comics. Other hobbies of mine include drawing and watching movies.

I have been teaching languages for over 7 years, and I consider myself very fortunate to have worked with a wide range of students: from 4-year-old children to university students. I have worked with low-income populations in Brazilian state schools, but I also have a lot of one-on-one experience under my belt, both online and face-to-face.
In 2017, I set up a conversation club at my university. Native and non-native speakers got together on a weekly basis to discuss a variety of topics — from our routines to global warming, from Taylor Swift songs to short stories. The experience was very rewarding and taught me a lot about how to improve students’ speaking skills.Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
My main goal is to encourage students to communicate as actively as they can from day one. My lessons are highly contextualized, and I use authentic material as often as possible so that students can experience what real Portuguese or English looks and sounds like.
While those are my teaching principles, I am very flexible and I care deeply about what my students are looking for. Our classes can and will be adapted to your needs and priorities!

Faz alguns anos que faço aulas com JP e ele é simplesmente um dos melhores professores na plataforma. Usa uma pedagogía com base na cumplicidade entre aluno e professor, guiando o aluno sempre com calma e paciência. Todas as aulas apresentam um assunto simples, mas concebido de forma muito criativa, a partir do qual a gente consegue tirar a polpa da língua juntos.
Um dos puntos fortes, entre muitos, que tem João Pedro como professor é sua habilidade de extrair de mim usos da língua cada vez mais desenvolvidos, sempre de uma forma natural e descontraída, como se fosse eu que os tinha concebido. Esse jeito de ensinar me dá mais autonomia e confiança como falante da língua.
O progresso que eu consegui fazer com a sua ajuda aprendendo essa língua é como noite e dia.

João's lessons are fantastic! Our lessons are conversational and completely in Portuguese. He helps me out with vocabulary and grammar during the lesson and at the end sends me a list of what I can work on. He comes prepared for the lesson and asks really great questions. On top of that, he's fun to talk to and very encouraging. I couldn't recommend him more!

Again I had grate time studying with João. His classes have been so worthwhile! He has an amazing way of breaking things down so that they are understandable, and always keeping it light and fun. I have learned so much so far and he paces the class just right so you feel challenged but not overwhelmed. If you are looking for the best Portuguese teacher, he is definitely the one !!!
