Thuy is an incredibly gifted teacher. She always knows how to help me advance in my study of Vietnamese and she is very, very patient! Lessons with Thuy are always fun and interesting. She is the best teacher and also a very kind and generous person.

Chị Thúy is the best! I'm a heritage Vietnamese speaker who has allowed my Vietnamese to get real rusty over the years, so I'm learning with chị Thúy to strengthen it and become more comfortable speaking. I've been talking lessons with her for almost two months now, and the two months has made a world of difference. Chị is very great at detecting where and what the language gaps are and helps fill them in. She also pushes me and challenges me in each lesson. I never learned to talk about more complex topics in Vietnamese --- my Vietnamese language skills mostly revolved around logistics and food! --- but chị Thúy has efficiently expanded my abilities and now I can muddle through conversations about politics, history, mental health, and more. She's very open-minded, curious, and has a manner that is very encouraging, so I can let go of perfectionist tendencies and embrace mistakes as a part of learning. Thúy has helped me study Vietnamese for 8 months now. I started out only knowing “Xin chào” and “Cảm ơn”, and have now made a trip to Hanoi where I held basic conversations with native speakers. Thúy provides a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy for you to say “I don’t understand this, can you explain it?” Especially with the tones, where I felt embarrassed by how many times I had to practice, but she was always patient and helped me get it right. And she continues to correct me with pronunciation each lesson! You can’t learn a language in only a few hours each week, so you have to practice on your own outside of class, and Thúy recommended great resources to help me in studying Vietnamese outside of our class time.

Today we talked about national parks and hiking and preparing trips. I had some difficulty expressing myself in Vietnamese today. She is very patient and gives me words and phrases to work on to improve ability to speak in these topics.
