My name is Atef, engineer by education and teacher by trade. I have a broad range of interests, including walking, couch surfing, watching Danish and Iranian films, designing and playing games, both physical and electronic, and learning new languages. I speak Arabic natively, English fluently and am conversational in both German and Vietnamese.
Even though I have lived in Cairo for most of my life, I used to discover new treasures here almost on a daily basis as I cross through it walking. I moved to Australia in mid-2022 and currently, I am studying a masters in secondary teaching.
Meine Kreationen
Ich als Lehrkraft
I've been tutoring Arabic since 2017. I use research-based methods to help my students learn and retain Arabic vocabulary and to have conversations from day one. I make flashcards with audio, recorded reading materials, and other resources to help you keep learning between lessons. This leaves most of the lesson time free for chatting in Arabic. I enjoy meeting new people and learning from them.
I find that identifying similarities and differences between Arabic and English is very helpful. This makes use of a language you're fluent in as a base for learning Arabic and helps you avoid making mistakes common to English speakers.
Meine Stunden und mein Unterrichtsstil
My teaching style is geared towards you becoming conversational as soon as possible. Each lesson starts with me explaining a key grammatical concept and vocabulary to practice this grammar structure in conversation. We repeat the new grammar and vocab in imaginary scenarios until you're confident.
Then, we chat about a topic that interests you while I collect the new words you needed to express yourself and after the lesson, I create flashcards that help you memorise the new words (I record audio so you can practice your pronunciation).
The free flashcards app tests you on 20 words daily. Do that for 15 minutes a day and we'll be having great conversations in Egyptian Arabic in no time!
Atef is a fantastic teacher for all age groups and has been my 7 year old son’s teacher for some time. Atef’s knowledge base, fluency, and approach to teaching allows young students, of all ages,to feel comfortable and at ease. He often employs games and focuses on the students’ interests to aid in building rapport while integrating language learning within the games and general discussions. He excels in making the classes both enjoyable and appealing and will often switch approaches within a session to further individualize the lesson to the student, help maintain energy/interest, and challenge the student in a playful and positive manner. Atef is patient, kind, timely and always provides feedback positively. It’s quite apparent that he takes the child’s age and developmental level into consideration during the classes, which makes the lessons that much more effective and enjoyable.

Mr. Rostom is patient, knowledgeable, and (unbelievably) even makes me audio flashcards. Without doubt the best lesson experience I've had on italki in any language.

Today's lesson was very challenging. Atef was extremely patient in explaining difficult words and complex phrases. His way of teaching is very professional and helpful. If you are studying arabic alone and you are looking for someone to corrrect your mistakes and take your arabic to the next level, then i definitely recommend Atef!
